Cambi is awarded contract in Vigo

Asker, 27 May 2013

Cambi is awarded the contract for the core technology in a new wastewater treatment plant in Vigo in northwestern Spain. The new plant will be the largest bio-filtration plant in Spain and one of the largest in Europe.

“This is our first contract in Spain which has a huge potential market for Cambi’s technology based on its thermal hydrolyses processes (CambiTHP). In addition, the contract is important for new potential projects in Latin America,” says Ole Jacob Sortehaug, who is Cambi’s regional sales manager Latin America & Iberia. “The new plant in Vigo will treat sludge from several municipalities in and around Vigo. The initial load will be around 8,000 tons of dry solids per year. The design capacity is for more than 22,000 tons of dry solids yearly,“ explains Sortehaug, who met with a large Spanish delegation for “kick off-meeting” on the Vigo project in Cambi’s headquarter in Asker at the beginning of May.

In the Spanish delegation, Joan Canals is responsible for the contract signing. He is very pleased to see that the contract with Cambi has been finalized after several months of negotiations.

“We believe that Cambi’s technology is the most cost-effective and energy-efficient solution for the new wastewater treatment plant in Vigo. The plant will have a positive impact on the environment and more than 800,000 inhabitants living in the area,” Canals states. “We will use the biogas from the plant to produce electricity, and the biosolids from the process will be used as a certified fertiliser in agriculture,” he adds.

“The plant in Vigo will start operating in 2014 and extended with increased capacity in 2016. The region of Galicia finances the plant, funds from the European Union and the city of Vigo,” Canals concludes.

Cambi is the leading provider of technologies for converting biodegradable material to renewable energy, bio-fertilizer resources, and biofuel, based on Cambi’s patented thermal hydrolysis process (CambiTHP™).
