The IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition is the high-profile international event organised by the International Water Association (IWA).

Tokyo has been selected as the host city of the World Water Congress & Exhibition in 2018. This marks the first time the global congress is taking place in Japan, Tokyo
International Exhibition Center, known as Tokyo Big Sight, will be the venue for the congress involving over 6,000 water professionals, companies and utilities from more than 90 countries across the globe.
The biannual congress takes place to further solutions in the water sector by bringing leaders in the water profession together. The congress will feature parallel sessions of technical presentations, scientific poster displays, workshops and discussion groups.
There is also a large exhibition of related products and services.
Showcase on several ongoing projects
Professor Keisuke Hanaki, the chair of Team Japan, stated: “We are ready to host the IWA 2018 in Tokyo to showcase great results of ongoing projects, which will enable water professionals, and to broaden business opportunities for the water sectors around the world.”
The supporting partners that will be working together with Team Japan in ensuring the success of the congress include the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Modern water city
Hundreds of years ago Tokyo was often referred to as a water city, and today the urban life of its citizens and most of its urban activities are still deeply connected with water.
It is fitting that the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition 2018 will shine a light on Tokyo the modern water city. “We look forward to bringing the international water community together in Tokyo to share knowledge and learn from each other”, said IWA president Diane d’Arras of the International Water Association.
The congress is held in a different city around the world every two years. In 2018, it will be held in Tokyo, Japan, and has previously graced the cities of Brisbane (2016) Lisbon (2014), Busan (2012), Montreal (2010), Vienna (2008), Beijing (2006), Marrakech (2004), Melbourne (2002), Berlin (2001) and Paris (2000).
