Cambi was a suitable solution in the expansion of Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Works in the early 2000s for a few reasons. First, the space for the plant's extension was limited, and it was essential to choose a sludge treatment method that was compact. Second, Ringsend also invested in secondary biological treatment that significantly increased their sludge production and lowered sludge dewaterability. The plant needed technology that would lessen their biosolids volume and lessen drying requirements. Third, the Cambi digestion system made the overall energy balance positive so that up to 4 MWs of electricity could be generated. Cambi, therefore, was the best technical solution but was also the most viable financial option.

The sludge line is designed to treat 56,000 tonnes DS annually. The intermediate digested cake is a pasteurised product used for agricultural applications in the Dublin area.

The overall project for Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Works was awarded to a consortium led by Black & Veatch. The Cambi contract was carried out by Cambi UK ltd.

Following the comprehensive upgrade of Ringsend's THP stream 3 in 2024, which increased the plant's throughput and efficiency, Celtic Anglian Water has decided to extend the life of Streams 1 and Streams 2. Cambi will supply parts and ancillary equipment.
