Our approach

Cambi's blueprint for a sustainable future

Our thermal hydrolysis process leads the industry in creating environmentally and community-friendly solutions for wastewater solids and sludge treatment. But our efforts go further.

Cambi defines corporate sustainability as the responsible management of relevant ESG factors, reflected in how we engage stakeholders, align with global frameworks, and define key priorities to create long-term value for our customers, investors, and society.

A holistic vision for sustainability

Sustainability is fundamental to Cambi’s business, guiding our strategy, operations, and innovation.
We integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles across all aspects of our work,
ensuring profitable, safe, and sustainable business practices.

Cambi works to harness wastewater solids and organic wastes to enable urban communities to become
more resilient and sustainable. Our strategy to achieve that is built on three pillars:

Environmental responsibility

The environment is at the core of everything we do at Cambi, from reducing material use, pollution, and emissions to pursuing net-zero targets.

Positive social impact

Employee welfare, growth, and safety are pivotal for Cambi's achievement of our strategic goals and warrant a sustainable workplace culture across our partner and supply networks.

Ethical governance

Cambi fosters accountability, sustainable value creation, and trust among its partners and communities through transparent and responsible corporate management.

Goal 3 – Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

Cambi contributes to healthy lives and well-being (SDG indicator 3.9.2) by improving wastewater solids treatment through our thermal hydrolysis process (THP). Through sterilisation, THP ensures pathogen removal, which protects public health, reduces the risk of waterborne diseases, and prevents environmental contamination.

Cambi's installations have the capacity to serve more than 120 million people, ensuring safer sanitation for communities worldwide. Grønn Vekst also supports many municipalities in Norway in disposing of wastewater solids safely and sustainably.

Goal 8 – Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

Cambi is committed to preventing occupational injuries (SDG indicator 8.8.1), fostering a strong safety culture, implementing ISO 45001-certified practices, and monitoring workplace injuries and near-misses to continuously improve health and safety performance.

The safety-first approach extends to all Cambi's suppliers as part of our commitment to ensure safe and decent working conditions throughout the supply chain and in collaboration with all clients and business partners.

Water and waste utility companies

Water and waste utility companies are central to Cambi's business, as they oversee wastewater sludge treatment, organic waste, and biosolids recycling. Cambi engages with utilities from project evaluation to long-term operational support.

  • For prospective customers, Cambi offers technical expertise to assess the benefits of thermal hydrolysis and circular economy solutions through feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and technical assessments, ensuring informed decision-making.
  • For existing clients, Cambi stands by its technology throughout the asset lifecycle, prioritising continuous performance. Long after commissioning, Cambi provides operations support, performance upgrades, and tailored service agreements. Ongoing improvements enhance efficiency, expand capacity, and extend plant life while optimising operational resilience.
  • Customer experience is a key focus, with satisfaction surveys conducted after tenders and project execution. Cambi maintains regular dialogue with operators to evaluate performance and identify improvement areas, refining services and strengthening long-term partnerships.
  • Beyond wastewater treatment, Cambi supports utilities managing biosolids and garden waste through Grønn Vekst, delivering an integrated approach that enhances resource recovery, cost efficiency, and long-term sustainability.

Understanding what matters

Cambi is conducting a double materiality assessment to identify and prioritise the most significant environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics affecting our business and stakeholders. This process ensures that we prioritise sustainability issues that matter most, both in terms of business impact and societal responsibility.

The assessment evaluates how environmental and social factors influence our operations, financial performance, and long-term strategy, while also considering how Cambi’s activities impact people, the environment, and society. The results will guide our future commitments, disclosures, and continuous improvements.
