Kansas City - Blue River

The Blue River Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kansas City, Missouri, is being transformed into the Blue River Biosolids Facility by utility Kansas City Water. The facility will house the first thermal hydrolysis process (THP) unit in the state.

The THP will improve digester capacity, eliminate incinerator dependency for sludge cake management, and provide renewable resources. Cambi was awarded the contract by Goodwin Brothers Construction, with the facility expected begin operations in 2025.

[CambiTHP] breaks down the solids so that you have less storage requirements, so it’s saving the city money and the amount of digesters that are needed. It produces biosolids that can be utilised for land application or land filling, which is a big improvement from the incinerators that are being taken out of service.
