Vigo - Lagares

Lagares is Spain's largest wastewater treatment plant with biofiltration technology. It is also one of the largest treatment facilities in Europe, serving a population equivalent of 800,000 in the Galicia county in north-west Spain.

Cambi's thermal hydrolysis process was integrated into the sludge line as pretreatment before anaerobic digestion. A B6 system was delivered in a pre-assembled package unit, ensuring quick and easy start-up and space optimisation. Thermal hydrolysis has also helped the Lagares facility reduce the volume of digesters needed and increased biogas production by up to 30%. The final dewatered sludge has an average dry matter of 30% and is free of pathogens and regrowth, making it suitable for land application.
