Abstract
United Utilities’ Sludge Balanced Asset Programme was designed to reduce the utility's carbon footprint, maximize its existing asset use, significantly increase renewable energy generation, improve the quality of biosolids, and reduce the need for incineration.
In this article, Cambi's Technical Director Bill Barber, then United Utilities’ Biosolids and Sustainability Technical Specialist, explains the strategy and rationale behind the UK utility’s biosolids management approach at the time.
