Basingstoke Sewage Treatment Works, operated by Thames Water, is today one of the UK's most sustainable wastewater facilities. Following a major upgrade in 2018 centred on Cambi's thermal hydrolysis process (THP), the plant now generates up to 62 MWh of electricity daily from biogas—powering the site and exporting half to the local grid. The facility also produces high-quality and highly sought after biosolids as a result of advanced digestion using THP.
This sludge treatment centre's transformation was also acknowledged as Wastewater Management Project of the Year by the Water & Energy Exchange (WEX) Global Summit in 2020.
