Country: United Kingdom
Client: Scottish Water
Solution: CambiTHP - B6
Two lines of Cambi's B6 system were commissioned in 2013 at Scottish Water's Seafield Waste Water Treatment Works in Edinburgh. This project was executed under a public-private partnership, otherwise known as a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) in the United Kingdom.
The use of Thermal Hydrolysis technology had a number of benefits for the plant, including increased sludge dewaterability, digester capacity, and biogas production. The renewable energy makes the site over 80% self-sufficient as the biogas is fed into CHP engines, with the resulting electricity used internally. The sludge product with 99.99% pathogen kill enables it to be diverted from landfill and instead used in agriculture.
