The Huaifang Water Reclamation Plant is owned and operated by the Beijing Drainage Group.
Huaifang (600 000 m3/d or 158 MGD) is the largest underground advanced wastewater treatment plant in Asia. The wastewater is treated with primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes (including a membrane bioreactor MBR process) before treated water is released to the Xiaolong River and human-made wetland park.
The sludge line in Huaifang is equipped with centrifuge pre-dewatering, sludge silos, the Cambi thermal hydrolysis process system, anaerobic digesters, and a chamber filter press for dewatering. The design capacity is 180 tDS/d, also treating sludge from plants Lugouqiao (100 000 m3/d) and Wujiacun (80 000 m3/d) nearby.
Huaifang won the2 018 International Water Association (IWA) Gold Award for Exceptional Project Execution and Delivery.
